What I Wear To Hot Yoga

Shopping for workout clothes is one of my guilty pleasures. New sportswear gets me excited to workout, so it’s shopping that’s good for me, right? …Kind of! While picking out cute workout clothes is a lot of fun, looking for something specific can be a bit of a headache. Not all cute things are comfortable and working out in something awkward and ill-fitting is a nightmare.

With an activity like yoga, you are contorting your body into all kinds of fun postures and you need sportswear that moves with you and not away from you. There’s nothing more distracting than having to pull up your leggings, pull down your top or wonder if the person behind you can see through your shorts while you’re trying to focus on your practice.

So if you’re looking for the perfect yoga outfit, here’s some inspiration for you. These are my go-to favourites to wear to my hot yoga sessions (they totally work for regular yoga, too!).

Nike Pro Cool Logo Cami

What do I look for in a yoga top? I like my top to be fitted, so that it won’t fall off my stomach during poses like Downward Facing Dog. I go for sleeveless tops, for maximum airiness. My latest purchase is this one by Nike. It’s comfortable and unrestrictive – and matches my yoga pants!

Under Armour Fly-By Printed Leggings

They are my newest pair of running leggings, but lately I’ve been loving them at hot yoga class. With the room being so hot, you’d think long pants would be a death trap. But actually, full-length leggings can make your practice much easier for you. If you need to rest an arm against your leg or grab onto your shin for a pose, it’s much easier to maintain your grip on your leggings than on bare skin that’s dripping with sweat!

While this pair is on the pricey side, I love the quality – I’m amazed that they don’t smell after working out! I like the reflective bands and the side zip which is great for stashing my keys when I run. They hug the body nicely and don’t ride down like so many leggings do.

New Balance Capris

If I’m not in the mood for full-length leggings at yoga, I go for capris instead. I purchased mine years ago, so I haven’t been able to find my exact pair online – but I linked above to a similar pair. For a long time I struggled to find the perfect workout bottoms, and then I found these by New Balance!

I wanted pants that didn’t fall down, wouldn’t ride up during yoga poses and wouldn’t cause chaffing during long runs. I wanted something short enough for the summer heat, but long enough that no matter how you stretch your body during yoga, you never feel like you’re about to show off your underwear. These capris have made it through many a yoga session (and more than one half marathon!) and performed fantastically.

So these are my most-loved combos to wear to my yoga sessions. I’m always looking for new favourites to bring up my yoga game! What are your go-to yoga outfits like?

xxo, Elizabeth

  1. Nicely illustrated! And I like those running leggings.

Since I ended up cycling everywhere every purchase of clothing has a “will it be suitable for cycling in?” question attached, whilst hoping to look smart enough for work or visiting the shops… then there was the attire for running and today I got to wear my “I feel like I’m dressed for a Mission Impossible-style bank heist” top (I’m not sure a picture would really show this well but it’s how I feel!) and then recently I bought shorts primarily for yoga, which I only really started a month or so ago, so it was like “wow, I’m taking this seriously!”… next up I need another t-shirt that doesn’t leave me breathing through it when doing downward facing dog 😀

I think buying clothing for sporting activities is easily justified when you know you’ll get the use out of it.

    1. Nothing wrong with looking like something out of Mission Impossible! Sometimes it has to be done when working out, right? And I know exactly what you mean about a t-shirt that leaves you breathing through it haha.
